Position Announcement – Assistant Professor of Wildlife Science and Conservation

JOB DESCRIPTION: The School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Wildlife Science and Conservation. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position at Michigan Technological University. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking a colleague whose research interests are centered on wildlife science and conservation. Of greatest interest would be applicants whose scholarship lies at the crossroads of human-wildlife interactions. Examples of specialties focused at that crossroads may include, but are not limited to, the human dimensions of wildlife, wildlife genetics, wildlife disease, or wildlife behavior. The candidate must have: 1) the ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels; 2) a Ph.D. at the time of appointment; 3) a record of research and scholarship including publications in peer-reviewed journals. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching courses at the undergraduate or graduate level and successful development of competitive externally-funded grants. Candidates that demonstrate interest in diversity or a track record of engaging diverse publics in wildlife conservation would be highly desirable.

 RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Teaching responsibilities are two undergraduate courses per year and a graduate course every other year (The undergraduate courses would be determined on the basis of what best serves the School’s wildlife program. The graduate course will be on a topic reflecting the candidate’s expertise.);  2) Develop a vigorous, externally funded research program; 3) Advise undergraduate students, and direct and raise funds to support graduate student research at the M.S. and Ph.D. level; 4) Participate in School and University committees; 5) Contribute to the well-being and inclusivity of the wildlife program. The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s vision as a premier, national center of excellence in natural resources and environmental science education, research, and outreach.
