Our advocacy priorities
McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Research Program
The cornerstone of university forestry research since 1962, McIntire-Stennis provides formula funding to land-grant universities and forestry schools. This program has supported thousands of research projects addressing everything from wildfire management to climate adaptation. NAUFRP works tirelessly to protect and expand this $36 million annual investment that leverages state matching funds to double its impact.
Renewable Resources Extension Act (RREA)
Extension programs connect university research to the 10 million family forest owners who control 39% of America’s forests. RREA funding supports extension foresters who translate science into practice, helping landowners manage forests sustainably. We advocate for robust RREA appropriations to maintain this vital link between universities and communities.
Farm Bill Provisions
Every five years, the Farm Bill shapes forest policy and funding. NAUFRP engages throughout the legislative process to ensure provisions supporting forestry research, education, and extension. Our advocacy has secured language protecting university programs and creating new opportunities for forest health initiatives.
Annual Appropriations
