International programs stand alongside education, research, and extension as one of NAUFRP’s four core mission areas. The NAUFRP International Committee facilitates collaboration among member institutions with foreign universities, agencies, and nations to develop and conduct international programs in forest resources—connecting the expertise of 80-plus U.S. universities with global partners addressing shared challenges in forest health, climate adaptation, and sustainable management.

Forest ecosystems ignore borders. Invasive species spread across continents. Climate patterns shift globally. Research breakthroughs in one nation inform forest management worldwide. The committee strengthens NAUFRP’s connections to international organizations including the Association of University Forestry Schools of Canada (AUFSC), the International Forestry Students Association (IFSA), and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), creating opportunities for member institutions to identify graduate exchange programs, collaborative research projects, and multi-national approaches to forest-based challenges.

Through these partnerships, NAUFRP member institutions educate students from across the globe, conduct research with international impact, and contribute to the global scientific community working to ensure healthy, productive, and sustainable forest ecosystems for future generations. The committee promotes and fosters international activities that advance forest science and strengthen the capacity of universities worldwide to address the complex environmental, economic, and social dimensions of forest resources.
